Three Big Movies, Using Little Cameras
Feature Film Spotlight at Hot Rod Cameras.
In 2011 shooting on an HDSDLR is not so new anymore. But just last year in 2010 HDSLR filmmaking was still in it’s infancy. Right now, this very second, you can go see a feature film in a movie theater shot entirely on a Hot Rod 7D-PL camera. And in the coming months you’ll be able to see two more movies which also utilized Hot Rod 7D-PL cameras.
In the next couple days we’ll be updating this page to include a lot of information about three movies Like Crazy (Now Playing), Red Tails (January 20, 2012) and Act of Valor (February 17, 2012) in the meantime here’s a quick preview….
Like Crazy
It’s was one of the big topics of conversation in Park City, the past January. After an all night bidding war for the independent feature film “Like Crazy”, Paramount Vantage picked up the movie for a reported $4M. Like Crazy was directed by Drake Doremus and shot by DP, John Guleserian.
The film was shot entirely on the Hot Rod 7D-PL system.

RED TAILS
Watch the first official trailer to the new feature film Red Tails. This movie is written by George Lucas, (you’ve heard of him right?) and John Ridley, who’s “Three Kings” is simply one one of the most creative pieces of modern war drama ever written.
The movie stars 3-time Emmy Award winner Bryan Cranston, Academy Award nominee Terrence Howard, and Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding Jr. The move is produced by Rick McCallum, who deserves much of the credit for introducing HDSLR technology to motion picture production at the highest levels.
We’ve got high hopes for this movie, not just because of the talent involved, but also it is the first major feature film to shoot with the Hot Rod 7D-PL. The Hot Rod 7D-PL was used with other Canon cameras during the re-shoot portion of production. Principal production and the re-shoots utilized 2x Sony F35 cameras (w/Zeiss Master Primes and Angenieux 24-290 lenses) recorded uncompressed to Codex Digital Lab systems.
