I was referring to monitoring playback.  There is a method to get a &quot;live&quot; video signal using the composite output, that goes dark when recording, but I haven&#039;t used this method as I don&#039;t find that particularly helpful.

I&#039;ve been tooling around with a prototype &quot;video tap&quot; for the GH1, but it&#039;s not quite ready for prime time.  When it&#039;s ready, steadicam folk will love it.

nice work!! I have a question for you:

When you say the GH1 can be monitored with the HDMI to DVI cable on a decent PC monitor, am I correct in saying that this is only during playback and not whilst setting up the shot ie in live view, and that the feed will switch off once record is activated. Or is the feed to HDMI only active during playback of the recorded clip?

Also is there a limit to how long the HDMI to DVI cable can be?
